American Sign Language is the third most commonly used language in the United States. After Congress passed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990, which requires public services to provide interpreters for the Deaf, people across the country began viewing sign language as an important asset in almost any business, government, educational, legal, and medical setting. The recognition of ASL is the acknowledgment of diversity.

Hi I'm an interpreter in Chicago and I just saw the photos of your silent weekend. You look like you're having soooo much fun! That's how I got motivated, too. Easy to get discouraged because the language is so hard to learn properly. I do hope some of you continue to study ASL and join to ranks. There's always work to do. I know you're only in high school but there are more and more programs to join all around the country.
Love the laughs,
